KARAKONTIE made a splash on Tuesday topping the first session of Book 5. It was a strong showing of commercial respect as KARAKONTIE was responsible for two of the top four hips on the day, leading sires by average at over $185,000, nearly tripling the closest competition.
His session topper, hip 2814, commanded $500,000 from buyer Marsha Naify. Bred and consigned by Gainesway, the colt is out of the Speightstown mare Untouch – a half sister to stakes winner Mr. Big News who recently placed in the Kentucky Derby (G1) earlier this month, and is pointing towards the Preakness (G2). Also mentioned on his page are champions Glorious Song and Devil’s Bag, plus prominent sire Saint Ballado.
Late in the session hip 3161 hammered $220,000 from buyer Ballyfair Bloodstock. Also bred and consigned by Gainesway, the filly is a full sister to undefeated juvenile stakes winner Spanish Loveaffair who will likely next be seen in the Jessamine (G2) at Keeneland. She is also half to Grade 1 winner Spanish Queen. Out of the Unusual Heat mare Spanish Bunny, you can find champion Bates Motel on her page.
