It was a first stakes victory for KARAKONTIE’s multiple stakes placed Soleil Volant on Saturday with a win in the Kent Stakes at Delaware Park.
Returning to the place where he broke his maiden last year, the 3-year-old Graham Motion trainee had a good start out of the gate in the 1 1/8-mile turf race before taking up a spot at the back of the main pack. He steadily moved past horses along the rail down the backstretch before angling out to confront the leaders from the outside.
That move paid off around the turn with Soleil Volant having only one horse left to pass coming into the stretch. The KARAKONTIE sophomore built the drama all the way down the stretch before getting up just in time to win by a nose.
What a finish! #4 SOLEIL VOLANT ($9.80) got there just in time to nose out #10 Thundering to win the $150,000 Kent Stakes at @delawarepark. @JOCKEYSMARIN was up for @GrahamMotion.

This was the second win and sixth top three finish overall in 12 starts for the gelding, who races for Jacques Dupis Jr., Luke Bourque, and Bobby Sutton.
Bred by G. Watts Humphrey Jr., Soleil Volant is the first foal out of stakes placed Valentine Wish. That mare is one of two stakes performers by Lemon Drop Kid out of Forest Valentine alongside Qatari Gold.
This page also includes Grade 2 winners Carolyn’s Cat and Meadow Flight and TAPIT’s Grade 3 winner Mufajaah among others.
It’s been another successful month for KARAKONTIE, who is coming off a Keeneland September Yearling Sale that saw his offerings sell for up to $275,000 and who registered an impressive Saratoga juvenile Maiden Special Weight winner to kick off the month.
