Gainesway’s popular young sire Karakontie is making a splash in the sales ring. Already this year, five of his first-crop juveniles have commanded six-figure prices.
Leading the group is a gray or roan filly, who fetched $460,000 at the OBS April Spring Sale of 2-year-olds in training on April 24. Consigned by Eisaman Equine, agent, as Hip No. 422, she was bought by Klaravich Stables.
The Karakontie filly breezed one furlong in :10 flat prior to the sale. She is out of the stakes-placed Cozzene mare Oblivious and is a half-sister to stakes winner Street Storm (by Stormy Atlantic).
Earlier in the sale, Karakontie was also represented by a $100,000 filly out of the Orientate mare Lady Pewitt. Consigned as Hip No. 245 by Best A Luck Farm, agent, she was bought by Gainesway.
At the OBS March Sale, Karakontie also had a $365,000 filly out of the Mujadil mare Down the Well, who was bought by Breeze Easy from All Dreams Equine, agent. He was also represented by a $150,000 colt out of the Posse mare Cruise, bought by SAYJAY Racing from Wavertree Stables, agent; and a $100,000 colt out of the Curlin mare Miss Frost, bought by Flaxman Holdings for Golden Rock Thoroughbreds, agent.
