KARAKONTIE yearlings have been in high demand at the Keeneland September Yearling Sale this week, led by a $280,000 filly.
Purchased by Parker Place from the Gainesway consignment, the filly is the first out of stakes-placed Smart Emma. That mare is a half-sister to stakes winner Kagura and out of the multiple group winner Miss Emma. Miss Emma herself is one of two stakes performers and seven winners out of Disregard That.
This family includes champion Gala Event, Grade 1 winner Shirocco, and Grade 2 winner Subiaco among others.
KARAKONTIE also registered a $240,000 filly out of Summer Sweet consigned by Stone Farm. Lael Stable was the buyer of that filly, the same buyers that bought his $775,000 multiple stakes winning filly Spanish Loveaffair last November.
A three-time winner, Summer Sweet is the dam of one winner from one to race. The mare is also a half-sister to three stakes performers, led by stakes winners Summer Breezing and Adirondack Summer. Her Grade 1-placed half-sister Summer Solo is also the dam of stakes winner Maedean.
The filly’s stakes winning second dam Summer Solstice is also a half-sister to multiple Group 1 winner Act One and Grade 1-placed runners Summer Symphony and Gharir.
Thursday’s session saw Davant Latham buy a $130,000 KARAKONTIE filly as agent for RGS Enterprises. Another KARAKONTIE consigned by Gainesway, she is a half-sister to two winners from two to race out of the winning Smart Strike mare Smart N Soft.
Smart N Soft is a half-sister to 14-time winner Fifth Street and out of the Grade 2 winner Softly. Softly is one of three stakes performers out of stakes placed Coragil. The page also includes Grade 2 winner Conquest Big E and Grade 3 winner Coragil Cat among 11 stakes performers under the filly’s third dam.
