It was another impressive winner for MCKINZIE at Del Mar Sunday when McKinzie Street easily won a Maiden Special Weight by 3 ½ lengths.
Engaging in a duel early in the 5 ½ furlong dirt race, he broke free of that runner at the half mile pole to get a breather. It didn’t take long for another duel to develop but with just over a quarter mile left, he made it clear he was the superior runner.
Pulling away in the stretch, McKinzie Street won by 3 ½ lengths for trainer Tim Yakeen with the third placed runner 8 ½ lengths behind.
The Clearsky Farms-bred was winning on debut for Leslie and Pierre Jean Amestoy and Roger Beasley. The colt sold for six figures all three time he went through the ring, led by his $290,000 price tag when purchased by his racing owners as a 2-year-old.
McKinzie Street is out of an unraced three-quarter sister to multiple graded stakes winner Kantharos and half-sister to stakes winners Ikigai and Bonfacio.
This is the fourth winner for MCKINZIE, tying him for seventh among all North American freshman sires.
