It was another winner for MCKINZIE on Saturday when Grand McKinzie backed up a second on debut with a 2 ¼ length Maiden Special Weight victory.
Racing over five furlongs on the dirt at Camarero, Grand McKinzie was happy to sit back and watch as the first two runners raced multiple lengths ahead of the field with Grand McKinzie sitting in third. As the second placed runner faded, he took over the second placed position into the stretch.
A rally in the final furlong saw the LNJ Foxwoods-bred close and then fly past the longtime leader to win by 2 ¼ lengths in the end.
Trained by Marcos Serrano, Grand McKinzie races for Cepa Stable.
He is a half-brother to the stakes winning Scotland in addition to TAPIT’s multiple stakes placed Tapped. His half-sister also produced the multiple stakes winner De Regreso.
They are out of the Grade 3 winner and Grade 1-placed Gemswick Park, who is out of a stakes winning half-sister to the Group 1 winner Poet’s Voice. The family also includes Group 1 winners Mozu Katchan and Blair House.
Grand McKinzie is the second winner for MCKINZIE from his first crop.
