Glean 15th Winner for MCKINZIE

It was three winners in three days for MCKINZIE when Glean won a Keeneland Maiden Special Weight on Sunday.

Trained by Wesley Ward for Lael Stables, the filly was tackling 5 ½ furlongs on the turf for her second start here. The filly raced just a length off the leader in the perfect stalking position through the early running as she bided her time.

That time came turning for home when she moved even closer to the leaders before making her presence known at the top of the stretch. She made her most serious bid in the final furlong and was able to get half length in front at the line.

Bred by Jackpot Farm, Glean was a $450,000 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga purchase for her racing owner from St George Sales.

The filly is out of the stakes winning Harlan’s Honor, whose four runners include the stakes placed Song River. Harlan’s Honor is one of two stakes winners out of her own stakes placed dam with her stakes winning half-sister March X Press producing TAPIT’s Grade 3 winner Fort Bragg.

MCKINZIE’s three new runners this weekend takes him to 15 winners, good enough for fourth in his generation. That group is led by two Grade 1 winners and four Grade 1 performers overall.
