Leading freshman sire MCKINZIE registered his 21st winner on Friday when Gainesway-bred and sold Generative won at Turfway.
Tackling 1 1/16 miles on a synthetic surface for the first time, he was happy to stay on the rail after breaking from the inside gate and racing over five lengths behind a pressured leader. Corey Lanerie gave up that inner position as the field raced through the turn and despite some greenness, Generative was given a chance to show why he went off as the favorite.
Generative had plenty of ground to make up in the stretch, but he did just that when closing in to take the lead in the final furlong. He rushed past the longtime pacesetter at that point to win by three quarters of a length in his fourth start.
Trained by Kenny McPeek for Walking L Thoroughbreds, Generative was bred and raised by Gainesway before being sold with the farm’s Keeneland September consignment last year.
Generative is a half-brother to the Grade 3 winner and multiple Grade 1 placed Madame Stripes, stakes winner Equal Court, and multiple Grade 1 placed Equal Councellor among seven other winners out of their dam.
Champion Campagnarde and Grade 1 winners Cagnotte, Idalino, and Besitos are all under his first three dams as well.
Generative’s dam Courtisane foaled a colt by KARAKONTIE in 2024.
MCKINZIE is on pace to be crowned champion freshman sire this year, leading his crop by earnings, graded stakes winners, graded stakes performers, Grade 1 winners, and Grade 1 performers in 2024.
