Selling all 12 they offered, Gainesway led all consignors by gross at $8,310,000 with their $692,500 average the best of any consignor with more than two sold. It was the second straight yearling sale where buyers have been eager to purchase Gainesway graduates after the farm had the highest gross and the two most expensive yearlings at the Fasig-Tipton July.

The most expensive of the Saratoga group was the aforementioned Curlin filly offered on behalf of Don Alberto. The third most expensive yearling of the sale, she was also the most expensive filly offered overall.

“She was a little bit of a collector’s item to be quite honest,” Jacob West said. “First time I saw her on the sale’s grounds on Friday, I actually texted Mr. Low and told him that I think we found the next Nest. I hate to put a comparison like that on such a young horse, but if I’m being honest, she reminded me of her. [Mr. Low] said if I love her that much, we could try to buy her.”

The March-born filly is the first out of TAPIT’s multiple stakes winning Matera, who also placed in a Grade 3. Matera is out of the Grade 3 winner Miss Macy Sue, who is also the dam of multiple Grade I winner Liam’s Map, Grade 3 winner and top sire Not This Time, and stakes winner and Grade 2-placed Taylor S.

Another Miss Macy Sue daughter produced a Curlin stakes performer in Adirondack (G2) second Virginia Eloise.

Whisper Hill Farm was the buyer of a $1.5 million Gun Runner filly out of Pure Clan bred by Three Chimneys Farm.

The second most expensive offering from the draft, the filly is a half-sister to TAPIT’s stakes winner and Grade 1-placed Princesa Carolina. That mare’s 3-year-old added an update to the catalog with a maiden win in late June. The yearling’s full brother Route Runner was also a post-catalog update with a win at Churchill Downs in June.

A two-time Grade 1 winner, Pure Clan is out of Grade 3 winner Gather The Clan. That mare also produced Grade 2 winner Greater Good and stakes placed Gather the Day. Gather The Day is the granddam of Grade 1 winner Finley’sluckycharm. In all, there are 13 stakes performers under Gather The Clan’s name with a third daughter producing Grade 1 winner Sky Diva.

“Obviously, her mom was a great racemare and we are hoping she will inherit those genes,” said Whisper Hill Farm’s Mandy Pope. “It’s a young family with some other half-sisters in there that might really go on and produce and build the pedigree as she goes.”

The third million-dollar yearling for Gainesway was a $1.2 million filly purchased by Resolute Bloodstock.

A Ghostzapper filly out of Seeking the Blue, she is a half-sister to the Grade 3-placed Janis Joplin and multiple stakes placed Vino Rouge from Seeking the Blue’s two foals older than two. Each of the dams on the page have produced at least two stakes performers, led by her multiple graded stakes winning third dam Atlantic Ocean and her Grade 3 winner Converge.

The consignor of three of the top 10 priced horses at the sale, Gainesway also sold yearlings for $950,000, $850,000, $850,000, $700,000, etc over the two days. Next up is the Fasig-Tipton New York-Bred Sale, where they offer five yearlings.
