Gainesway Set for Strong Keeneland September Book 2

After a busy Keeneland September Yearling Sale Book 1, Gainesway is back with another stellar group of yearlings stables in Barns 31 and 32 for Book 2.

Hip 480 comes into the ring with Grade 1 form on the page as a son of stakes placed, successful broodmare Unbound.

Unbound’s five runners include the Grade 1 winning Arabian Lion and 10-time winner Malibu Star among her four winners. Unbound is a full sister to the stakes placed Mary Riya, who produced her own stakes winner in multiple Grade 2 winner Major Dude.

This filly’s third dam is the Hall of Fame mare Personal Ensign, who has the distinction of being part of an elite group of Grade 1 winning mares who produced a Grade 1 winner who in turn produced her own Grade 1 winner. Her other runners included Grade 1 winners Miner’s Mark and Traditionally with her other daughters and granddaughters producing Grade 1 winners Mr. Speaker and Seeking the Soul.

A pair of yearlings closely related to Canadian champion Lukes Alley sell with Gainesway in Book 2.

MCKINZIE’s Hip 486 is a half-sister to Lukes Alley and stakes winner and Grade 3-placed Arrifana among the nine winners from 10 to race out of A.P. Indy’s stakes winning daughter Vaulcluse. Arrifana is a stakes producer in her own right as the dam of the stakes placed Late Night Text.

Vaulcluse is out of a full sister to the Grade 3 winning Millions and half-sister to the Grade 3-placed duo of Young Senor and Brentsville. Another one of the siblings also produced Grade 1 winner Elusive City with each dam on this page producing a stakes winner and at least one stakes producer.

A half-sister to Hip 486 is the dam of Hip 589. This colt is by leading freshman sire Life Is Good and out of Empire Maker’s winning mare Easy to Love. That mare’s first foal is a 2-year-old who sold here last year for $800,000 and is working at Saratoga.

Hip 661 comes into the ring with an update after RAGING BULL half-brother Proletariat won both the Del Mar Derby (G2) and the Oceanside H. after the catalog was finalized.

The Up to the Mark filly already had blacktype under her stakes placed first dam with Proletariat placing in two Grade 3s as a juvenile and KARAKONTIE’s Sun Never Sets second in multiple Italian Group 2s. The dam Kodiak West has bold on her own name as a stakes placed runner in France.

All four dams on the page have either produced a stakes performers or the dam of a stakes performer with Group 2 winner Carrizo Creek leading the others on the page.

A half-sister to three-time Grade 1 winner Guarana sells as Hip 684 with a stakes update.

His dam’s half-sister shows on the page as the dam of Grade 1-placed John The Beer Man, but that runner upgraded his name to capital letters in Saratoga with a win in the Troy S. (G2). Guarana also provided an update to the page with her 4-year-old winning three times this year. Hip 684’s dam is also the dam of Grade 3 winners Cornucopian and Beatbox and the stakes winner and Grade 2-placed Magic Dance among four stakes performers.

Second dam Pleasant Home was a Grade 1 winner herself as the winner of the Breeders’ Cup Distaff (G1) with multiple Grade 1 placings as well. The mare has produced Grade 1-placed Pleasant Orb and stakes placed Hereditary with her daughters also producing 10 stakes performers between them. Pleasant Home is one of two stakes winners out of Our Country Place, whose other descendants include Grade 1 winners Point of Entry and Pine Island.
