It was another successful Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Sale for Gainesway this week when the farm was the consignor of two of the top three most expensive horses of the sale.
The Gainesway-offered Hip 200 by Gun Runner was the second most expensive of both the sale and second session when Flying Dutchman went to $4 million to secure the colt out of Grade 3 winner and Grade 1-placed Four Graces. Four Graces’s first foal is a 2-year-old filly who sold with Gainesway for $2.2 million last year at the Keeneland September Sale.

Four Graces is out of Grade 3-placed Ivory Empress, making her a half-sister to Grade 2 winner and Grade 1-placed McCraken and the Grade 3-placed duo of Bondurant and With Dignity. Ivory Empress is a half-sister to the Grade 1 winner Mea Domina and out of Grade 3 winner and Grade 1-placed Madame Pandit.
“The cream has been rising to the top,” said Gainesway’s Brian Graves. “In our early inspections this year, I though he was one of the top colts that I’d seen, obviously by one of the top stallions and by a proper young mare.”
Gainesway was the consignor of the first session topper when the Stornestreet bred and raised colt went to Boyd Racing for $3.2 million with Brittany Linton as agent.

“I just think it’s just going to be an amazing colt. We think it has a possibility to be a Kentucky Derby horse one day,” said Randy Boyd.
The colt is the first out of Grade 2 winner Slammed, who won nine of her 13 starts overall and sold to Stonestreet for $1.1 million in 2024. Slammed is one of four stakes winners for the multiple stakes winning Hennesey Smash, whose other runners include stakes winner and Grade 2-placed Smash Ticket, multiple stakes winner Roll On Diabolical, and the stakes winning Smash It.
Hennesey Smash is one of four stakes winners out of her own dam.
Gainesway also saw its colts sell for $1.45 million, $1 million, 1 million, etc. with its most expensive filly selling for $850,000.
Snapped up by Spendthrift Farm, that $850,000 filly is the second foal out of Justify mare Just My Own.

A placed mare, Just My Own is a half-sister to six winners out of Mining My Own. That Smart Strike mare is best known as the dam of Canadian champion and Kentucky Derby (G1) winner Mine That Bird and triple Grade 1 winner Dullahan. The mare also produced the stakes winning Mine That Star and stakes placed Meistermind.
Mining My Own is a half-sister to five winners out of the stakes placed Aspenelle, with the mare’s runners led by stakes winner Golden Sunray and another daughter also producing a Grade 1 winner with Aspen Mountain the dam of Shoemaker Mile S. winner Bolo.
In all, Gainesway sold five seven-figure horses and 18 from 19 offered overall with their offerings averaging $960,000- nearly $200,000 more than the sale average. Their $17.28 million in gross was the second highest of any consignor with the highest having 10 more horses sold.
Gainesway will be in Saratoga again this coming week with 13 offered at the Fasig-Tipton New York-Bred Yearlings sale on August 16th and 17th.
