Gainesway Freshmen Set for Keeneland January

Mares carrying the first foals by Gainesway’s freshman duo of OLYMPIAD and DRAIN THE CLOCK head to the ring to kick off 2024 at the Keeneland January Horses of All Ages Sale from January 8 through 11.

DRAIN THE CLOCK is the covering sire of two in-foal mares with Hip 226 going through the ring as part of the Spruceton Farm consignment.

Nyquist mare Anubis is carrying her second foal by the Grade 1 winner as one of six runners out of Janetstickettocats. That mare is also the dam of Grade 3 winner Lucky Player and stakes winner Lifetime of Chance. This page has multiple Gainesway connections with Janetstickettocats a half-sister to the Grade 2 winning Runway Model and three other stakes performers. Runway Model is also the dam of DRAIN THE CLOCK’s four-time Grade 1 winner MCKINZIE.

Janetstickettocats is a fifth-generation stakes producer with each of Anubis’s first five dams producing at least one stakes winner. Anubis is also the dam of a Good Samaritan yearling filly as well.

Two days later, Vinery Sales-offered Hypnotic sells as Hip 1093 during Wednesday’s session.

Hypnotic is a half-sister to four winners from five to race out of the three-time winning Bernardini mare Alluring Squall. Alluring Squall is one of nine winners from 12 to race out of Appealing Storm with that mare producing five stakes winners, including the Grade 1 winner Vacare and three other graded stakes winners. One of those is also the dam of stakes winner and Grade 2-placed No Fault Of Mine while an unraced daughter is the dam of Grade 3-placed Positive Side.

OLYMPIAD saw his first in-foal mares sell for up to $450,000 last November and has only one mare offered here, the Hard Spun mare Navy Fleet selling as Hip 453.

That Hartwell Farm consignee was a placed mare on the track and is a half-sister to champion and two-country Grade 1 winner Ivar. The pair are out of the Grade 2 winner May Be Now, one of three stakes winners out of the winning Chilean mare Dans La Ville. Dans La Ville is also the dam of Grade 1 winner Al’s Gal and stakes winner Ann Of the Dance. Ann Of The Dance is also the dam of Grade 1-placed School Dance as one of multiple Grade 1 producers.

Navy Fleet is carrying her first foal now but three of her first four dams have produced at least one Grade 1 winner with that non-producer the granddam of Chilean champion and four-time Grade 1 winner Isola Piu Bella.

Each session starts at 10am ET during the four-day sale in Lexington, Ky. to kick off 2024.
