Gainesway has several connections Kentucky Oaks and Derby this weekend. Enforceable (TAPIT), Sole Volante (KARAKONTIE), and Speech (SALES GRAD) all have interests in Gainesway sires or sales program that we will be rooting for!
Starting with Speech, she will be running for the lilies in the Longines Kentucky Oaks Friday, coming off of a Grade 1 win in the Ashland S. (G1) during Keeneland’s summer meet. A Gainesway sales grad, Speech was offered as a yearling at the 2018 Fasig-Tipton July Sale. Kentucky Derby contender Sole Volante is from the first crop of KARAKONTIE. He has captured stakes wins on both turf and dirt, including a victory early this spring in the Sam F. Davis (G3), which earned him 10 points on the road the the Kentucky Derby. He also posted a runner-up effort in the Tampa Bay Derby (G2) which secured his spot in the Kentucky Derby starting gate. KARAKONTIE joins Constitution and Honor Code as the only second-crop sires to have progeny in this American classic – from their first eligible crops. TAPIT, of course, has a Derby horse in Enforceable amongst this year’s field. In fact, for nine consecutive years TAPIT has secured a starter in the Kentucky Derby field, highlighted by a third place finish from Tacitus in 2019. This year’s challenger, Enforceable, won the Lecomte Stakes (G3) at Fair Grounds in January, followed up by a runner-up finish in the Risen Star (G2) a month later.
