Freshman sire Karakontie earned his first stakes winner when two-year-old filly Karak beat the boys in the Tyro Stakes at Monmouth August 3rd. Sent off as the odds on favorite, she dominated the five furlong turf contest by 2 1/2 lengths finishing in 57:08.

Karak is trained by Wesley Ward for Breeze Easy, who purchased her for $365,000 after she worked a furlong in :9 4/5 at the OBS March sale. Now with earnings of nearly $100,000, she joins stakes-placed European runner In the Present as precocious, blacktype progeny for Karakontie.

Karakontie, a G1 winner at 2, also captured the G1 French Two Thousand Guineas and the Breeders’ Cup Mile at 3. An earner of nearly $2 million, his first-crop 2-year-olds have sold up to $460,000.
