First MCKINZIE Yearlings on Offer at Keeneland January Horses of All Ages Sale

First weanlings sold for up to $300,000

After his first weanlings were well-received at the November breeding stock sales, ten of MCKINZIE’s first yearlings hit the ring at the Keeneland January Horses of All Ages Sale in early 2023.

The first yearling through the ring is Hip 4, a Taylor Made Sales-offered colt out of Fashion Brand. That mare’s first foal is already placed in her only start as a juvenile.

Fashion Brand herself is a Medaglia d’Oro daughter of Grade 3 winner and multiple Grade 1-placed Theyskens’ Theory. Theyskens’ Theory herself is a half-sister to Champion 2-Year-Old Male and Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1) winner Stevie Wonderboy, stakes placed Queen Joanne, and to the granddam of multiple graded stakes winner Somelikeithotbrown.

MCKINZIE’s sire Street Sense is the sire of three stakes winners out of Medaglia d’Oro mares from 15 runners with eight of those runners winning at least one race.

MCKINZIE’s Hip 16 consigned by Bedouin Bloodstock is a colt out of the Grade 3 winner and Grade 1-placed Gemswick Park. That mare is the dam of four winners from four to race, led by TAPIT’s multiple stakes placed Tapped. Gemswick Park is one of three stakes performers out of stakes winner Queen’s Park alongside the stakes placed duo of Sheraton Park and Queen’s College.

Four of Gemswick Park’s half-sisters have produced stakes performers or the dams of stakes performers, led by stakes winner Luckyallmylife. Their dam Queen’s Park is a half-sister to the Grade 1 winning Poet’s Voice and two other stakes winners.

Hunter Valley Farm sends Hip 190 through the ring, a daughter of stakes winner and multiple graded stakes placed Sisterhood. Sisterhood’s two winners from two to race are led by the stakes winning and graded stakes placed In The Mood. Sisterhood is one of three stakes performers from five winners out of the winning Caterette. Caterette is also the dam of stakes winner and multiple graded stakes placed Cozy Kitten.

A notable update on her page is her half sister, Be My Sunshine, won a Gulfstream Park maiden special weight on debut by open lengths on January 8th!

Also on the page are stakes winners Enduring Will, Beach Getaway, and McKenzie Honey while the filly’s fourth dam is the Grade 3 winner and multiple Grade 1-placed Vivano.

Hip 364 from the Castle Park Farm consignment is a half-brother to Grade 3 winner Ms Bad Behavior and the stakes winning duo of One Bad Boy and Blessed Truly. The group are out of the multiple stakes winner Cumulonimble, who is also a half-sister to the multiple stakes-placed Boom Bang Bing.

Each of the three dams of this colt’s page are the dams or granddams of stakes performers with seven stakes performers on the page.

Stuart Morris is the consigner of Hip 468, a filly owned by Highclere, Rabanal, and Wicks. That filly is a half-sister to two winners from two to race out of Illicit Affair, a three-quarter sister to Grade 1 winner Shakin It Up and Grade 3 winner Governor Charlie. Illicit Affair is a daughter of dual champion Silverbulletday, who also produced stakes placed Tice and the dams of Shakin It Up, Governor Charlie, stakes winner Crisis of Spirit, and stakes-placed Mile High Magic.

Illicit Affair’s sire Midnight Lute is the damsire of eight stakes winners and 14 stakes performers, led by Grade 2 winner Midnight Memories, and Grade 3 winner Midnight Stroll.

The final MCKINZIE offering of the sale is Hip 835, a half-brother to Grade 3 winner Cavalry Charge. The duo is out of the winning Candy Ride mare Sweet Talkin, a half-sister five stakes performers led by Grade 1 winner Adieu, and Grade 3 winners Direct Line and Rapport. One of those stakes performers is the dam of stakes winners Laurie’s Rocket and Greeley’s Rocket in addition to being the granddam of stakes winner Necker Island.

The Keeneland January Horses of All Ages Sale starts on January 9 and runs through January 12 with each session starting at 10:00 a.m. ET.
