First Crop by OLYMPIAD On Offer at Keeneland January

Buyers who missed out on OLYMPIAD’s popular weanlings in the fall will get another chance at his first crop this week when eight sell at the Keeneland January Horses of Racing Age Sale.

His first through the ring comes with an update with the Hunter Valley Farm-offered Hip 226’s half-brother second in the Zia Park Derby.

That colt already had multiple stakes placings to his name with a second in the Shared Belief Stakes and third in the Oklahoma Derby (G3). The duo is out of the Candy Ride mare High Performer, who is the dam of four winners from five to race overall with last year’s juvenile also among the winners. High Performer is a full sister to stakes winner and Grade 2 placed Chocopologie. Their multiple graded stakes placed dam Highest Class also produced Grade 2 placed High Regard and stakes placed Mick from her four runners.

Stakes form is the name of the game on this page with Highest Class one of four stakes performers out of her own stakes placed dam. Classic Approval’s other three have all won stakes, including the Grade 3 winning duo of Gulch Approval and Rusty Slipper. Rusty Slipper produced that takes winning Adhafera while a winning half-sister produced Grade 1 winner Wicked Strong.

Another OLYMPIAD yearling hits the ring with an update when Hip 385 consigned by Highgate Sales is offered.

The colt is out of the multiple stakes winner Simplify, whose TAPIT half-sister produced recent Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan National Day Cup Stakes third Home Brew. Simplify has proven to be an even stronger broodmare than her three-quarter sister, however. Of her seven winners, Simplify has produced dual stakes winner Optionality and stakes winner Simple Surprise in addition to the stakes placed duo of Counterspy and Simply Sovereign. Simple Surprise is also the dam of dual Grade 1 winner Gunite to carry on the family’s strong racing and producing tradition.

Simplify takes up most of this page, though her multiple stakes winning dam produced three stakes performers of her own. Home Brew’s dam was a two-time winner who also produced the Grade 2 winner Air Strike as well as him.

The stakes placed Two Shakes is the dam of Hip 476 offered by Baldwin Bloodstock.

Born on March 15, the colt is a half-brother to one winner from one to race out of a full sister to Grade 1 winner Sunset Glow and stakes winner Defiantly. The trio are the only three foals out of the stakes placed Perfectforthepart, who was one of four winners from six foals out of her own dam.  This colt’s third dam is out of Grade 1 winner Andestine, who produced two winners from two to race.

The final OLYMPIAD through the ring is Hip 1002, a filly offered by Comedia during the final session.

The filly is a half-sister to the stakes winning Colonel Ludlow and three other winners from five to race out of the winning Comedia. Comedia is a half-sister to stakes winner and Grade 3 placed Abraham and to the Grade 1-placed Beat the Benchmark with multiple sisters also producing stakes performers. Among those produced by the mares are Grade 2 winner and Grade 1-placed Intricate and stakes winner Supreme Aura.

The sale kicks off at 10am on Monday with sessions starting at the same time on Tuesday and Wednesday as well.
