Only days after registering a Grade 1 victor, MCKINZIE registered a debut winner when the Saffie Joseph Jr. trained Paradise City won a Gulfstream Park Maiden Special Weight.
Starting her career going 6 ½ furlongs on the dirt, Paradise City was never far behind the pacesetter when stalking that one from her rail position. It wasn’t until the stretch that she got her first taste of real racing when Edgard Zayas encouraged her to go after the leader.
It took Paradise City much of the early stretch to get to the lead, but once she was in command she built a comfortable cushion to win by a length at the line with the rest of the field over eight lengths behind.
Racing for the partnership of C2 Racing Stable, Kuehne Racing, Shining Stables, Paul Braverman, and Timothy Pinch, Paradise City had showed plenty of promise with speedy works at Palm Meadows.
The Don Alberto-bred is out of Washington Bridge, a Grade 2 winner whose seven winners include Grade 3 winner Mnasek. Another one of Washinton Bridge’s daughters is the dam of Grade 2 winner Wentrue and stakes placed With Passion.
Washington Bridge’s stakes winning dam was also a successful broodmare when producing two stakes winners and three other stakes performers from her 11 winners.
The only stallion in his crop to sire a Grade 1 winner or performer, MCKINZIE’s eight winners is sixth best among all freshmen.
