It was a fifth winner for MCKINZIE on Sunday when $675,000 OBS April 2-year-old purchase Briland won on debut at Saratoga.
The Chad Brown trainee started her career racing six furlongs on the dirt and quickly tucked in behind the leader after the gate opened. Always within striking distance, she made a serious move around the turn when three wide. By the top of the stretch, she had the lead but the race favorite forced Briland to dig deep near the line to win by a neck.
That runner was the only one remotely near Briland at the wire, with the third placed runner seven lengths behind and the fourth-place runner 9 ¾ lengths adrift the leader.
Purchased by Bradley Thoroughbreds for Julie Davies, Briland races for her buyer, Gainesway, Cambron Equine, and Alan Northcutt. Bred by Fred Hertrich, John Fielding, and Robert Tribett.
Briland is a half-sister to the stakes winning Miuccia out of a half-sister to the Grade 1 winner Grace Adler and Grade 3 winner Pyrenees. They are two of three stakes performers out of the Grade 3 winner Our Khrysty, who is also the granddam of the stakes placed Distorted d’Oro.
This is also the family of Grade 1 winner Bullsbay and TAPIT’s stakes winner Mask among 10 stakes performers under Briland’s first three dams.
