Gainesway was the consignor of the third most expensive offering during the second book of the Keeneland September Yearling Sale when a colt out of Cherry Lodge sold for $1.4 million.
That colt led another strong book for Gainesway that saw four of their 31 sold bring seven figures with a $556,936 average and $450,000 median.
Bred by Gainesway and purchased by Mike Ryan, the $1.4 million Curlin colt’s stakes winning dam was also a Grade 1 placed runner who is a full sister to Grade 3 winner Gala Award.
This colt is bred closely to dual Canadian champion Curlin’s Voyage, who is out of Cherry Lodge’s half-sister and by Curlin. Cherry Lodge’s half-siblings also include Grade 1 winner Stormello, Grade 2 winner My Best Brother, and Grade 3-placed Greatest Game.
Two of her sisters also produced four stakes performers between them. They were following in their dam’s footsteps with Wilshewed producing eight winners overall, including five stakes performers.
St. Elias, Albaugh Stable, West Point, and Railbirds teamed up to buy a $1.35 million colt to make him the second most expensive offering from Gainesway during Book 2.
The Not This Time colt bred by Whisper Hill, Gainesway, and Brian Graves is a half-brother to multiple Grade 1-placed Reinvestment Risk and one other winner from four to race out of four-time winner Ridingwiththedevil. That mare is a half-sister to the dual stakes placed Fiera Nocturna and out of a half-sister to multiple Grade 3 winner My List, stakes winner Crushed It, and two other stakes performers. My List went on to produce her own stakes placer as one of four stakes producers on this page – including the colt’s first three dams.
A colt with close ties to two Gainesway stallions sold for $1.3 million to Mayberry Farm on Wednesday.
The TAPIT colt bred by Nick Cosato and the Tapit Syndicate is a half-brother to Gaineway’s Grade 1 winning stallion DRAIN THE CLOCK and to multiple Grade 2 placed Corposo. Their Arch dam Manki is the dam of four winners from five to race overall and is out of a half-sister to Grade 2 winner and multiple Grade 1 placed Midnight Line. Midnight Line produced Grade 2 winner and Grade 1-placed Communique and the dam of stakes winner Dali while two other daughters of this colt’s Grade 3 winning third dam also produced stakes performers.
This was also the fourth millionaire for TAPIT at the Keeneland September Yearling Sale and his most expensive colt of the sale with the stallion’s offerings topped by a $1.5 million filly out of Sharing.
Rounding out Gainesway’s Book 2 millionaires was a $1 million colt purchased by Spendthrift and hailing from the Stonestreet Farm breeding program.
The Constitution colt is the second out of Pioneerof the Nile mare Way Too Pretty, who is a half-sister to Grade 1 winner Callback. Way Too Pretty’s other siblings include stakes winner Defy Gravity and stakes placed Miss Super Quick with all three stakes performers out of Quickest producing stakes performers or the dams of stakes performers, led by Defy Gravity with stakes winner Green Destiny.
This is a strong family with Quickest a half-sister to Kentucky Derby (G1) winner Super Saver and the Grade 3 winning duo of Cyrus Alexander and Brethren. Their dam Supercharger is also a full sister to Grade 1 winner Girolamo.
Gainesway sold 59 horses between Books 1 and 2 for a gross of $40.315 million, average of $683,306, and median of $600,000. That average is the highest of any consignor with 10 or more sold with its gross behind only a consignor who sold over 50 more horses than Gainesway in the first two books.
Gainesway has 145 more yearlings cataloged in the final three books of the sale with its next session taking place during the first day of Book 3 on Saturday.
