AFLEET ALEX’s multiple graded stakes winner Skywire looks to become his fourth champion after being named a Sovereign Awards finalist for Champion Older Main Track Male.
Skywire was busy in 2020 with an eight race campaign that saw him take home $242,929 in earnings with races in both Canada and the United States. The then-4-year-old proved to be a force to be reckoned with when winning the Eclipse Stakes (G2) by 1 ¼ lengths to kick off his stakes campaign at Woodbine.
Following that up with two Grade 3-placings, he book-ended the season with another Grade 2 win – this time in the Autumn Stakes by 1 ¾ lengths.
The winner of five of his 15 career starts, Skywire shows yet again that AFLEET ALEX truly is an international sire. His champions have come in two different countries with Texas Red also a runner-up for Champion 2-Year-Old honors at the Eclipse Awards in 2014.
Afleet Alex’s most recent champion was South Korea’s 2019 Champion Older Horse Dolkong. The winner of eight of his 14 starts, Dolkong proved to be among the best in Dubai as well as South Korea with a victory in the Curlin Handicap during the 2019 carnival. The runner also earned a Grade 1 placing in the Al Maktoum Challenge Round 3 (G1) when third at the same carnival. Dolkong ended his year with a victory in the KRA Cup Classic back on his home soil.
A champion racehorse himself, AFLEET ALEX has sired three champions and six Grade 1 winners. He stands for $6,500 in 2021.
