Tapizar debutante Firefoot overcame a slow beginning to score impressively in her unveiling June 4 at Gulfstream Park.
With Edgard Zayas in the saddle, the Todd Pletcher trainee made up several lengths on the backstretch, grabbed the lead entering the far turn, and was determined in the stretch to prevail by three lengths. The 3-year-old filly’s final time was 1:10.72 for six furlongs on a sealed, sloppy track.
Owned by StarLadies Racing and Nexus Racing Club, Firefoot was a $240,000 Keeneland September Book 1 yearling purchase from the consignment of breeder Clearsky Farms.
Firefoot is out of the Grand Slam mare Empty the Bases, who is also responsible for Tapit graded stakes winner Bandbox.
