Gainesway’s freshman sire Tapizar added winner number 15 to his spreadsheet when Reddam Racing’s Blabimir took the fifth race over seven juvenile rivals Dec. 9 at Los Alamitos in California (VIDEO).
The Doug O’Neill-trained colt, ridden by Mario Gutierrez, drafted off the early pace in the 5½-furlong maiden special weight event over the main track. Asked for effort as the field entered the turn for the stretch drive, Blabimir responded and eased to the wire 1¼ lengths ahead of his nearest competitor.
Jim and Pam Robinson’s Brandywine Farm bred the winner in Kentucky from the Elusive Quality mare Starlight Lady, a daughter of multiple graded stakes winner Colcon, who earned more than $630,000 in her 24-race career. Brandywine offered the bay colt at the 2015 Keeneland September yearling sale where he brought $115,000 from Hal Hatch, agent.
Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile (G1) winner Tapizar, a son of Gainesway’s perennial leading sire Tapit, currently ranks third on the first-crop sire list by earnings.
