Gainesway Off to Fast Start at Keeneland with Successful Book 1

It was an excellent start to this year’s Keeneland September Yearling Sale in Book 1 when the consignment had the second highest average of any consignor with more than 10 sold at $778,788.

Gainesway’s Book 1 horses also brought in a gross of $26,700,000, the second highest of any consignor with nine fewer sold than the top consignor.

Leading the way for Gainesway were nine seven-figure yearlings – including the third most expensive sold in the first session and fifth most expensive colt in the second session.

Gainesway’s most expensive offering was TAPIT TRICE’s $2.1 million Gainesway-bred half-brother, who is headed to Japan after being purchased by J.S. Company for Yosuke Imafuki.

By Not This Time, the colt is out of the stakes winner and Grade 3-placed Danzatrice, who has produced three winners from her four to race. She is far from the only successful broodmare on the page with her own dam producing Champion 2-Year-Old Filly Jaywalk and her half-sisters producing stakes winner Jupiter and TAPIT’s stakes placed Abdul.

The Grade 3-placed Jayhawk is under Danzatrice’s granddam with that granddam a half-sister to Grade 2 winners Mission Impazible and Forest Camp among the four stakes winners out of multiple stakes winner La Paz.

Danzatrice had another TAPIT colt this year.

Douglas Scharbauer purchased a $1.6 million colt during the second session out of TAPIT’s Grade 3-placed daughter Lady Tapit.

Lady Tapit has proven to be an excellent broodmare so far with five winners from five to race. Her runners are led by Grade 1 winner Kingsbarns and six-time winner Lord Sheldon. This colt bred by Gainesway and Whisper Hill Farm is a grandson of the Kingmambo mare Temperence Gift. That mare produced five winners of her own, led by Grade 1 winner Gozzip Girl who went on to produce Grade 2 winner Chuck Nate. Another daughter produced the graded placed dup of Gallieo’s Town and Gianella.

This family also includes Grade 1 winners Brocco and My Gi Gi among many others.

Champion Goodnight Olive’s first foal was in high demand when he entered the ring the second day with St. Elias, West Point, Lane’s End Racing, and Belladonna going to $1.5 million to acquire the Not This Time colt.

Bred by Resolute Bloodstock, the colt’s dam Goodnight Olive won two Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint (G1) races among her four Grade 1 victories overall. Her record is stellar from top to bottom as the winner of nine races for nearly $2.2 million in earnings with all 12 of her starts seeing her finish in the top three.

The colt’s multiple Grade 3 winner and Grade 2-placed Salty Strike is also the granddam of Grade 3-placed Lexa and stakes placed Aquila Moon. Salty Strike is one of two stakes winners and five stakes performers out of the three-time winner Lake Huron, who saw one of her other daughters produce the Grade 3 winner Mohawk Trail.

The fourth most expensive Gainesway offering and most expensive filly from the consignment was Hip 110, who sold to New River Equine for $1.4 million.

Bred by GRS, Three Chimneys Farm, Whisper Hill Farm, and JSM Equine, the filly out of the stakes placed Akron Moon is a half-sister to multiple Grade 1 winner Bellafina and stakes winner and multiple graded stakes placed Diamond King. In all, Akron Moon has produced three winners from four to race with that fourth runner placed in two starts.

Akron Moon is out of the multiple Grade 3 winner Akronism, making her a half-sister to the Grade 2 winner Have At It. One of her half-sisters is also the dam of Grade 2 placed Miss Mattie B and Allworthy.

Gainesway’s Book 1 offerings also sold for $1.2 million, $1.2 million, $.2 million, $1.1 million, $1 million, etc. with 26 of their 33 sold bringing $500,000 or more. Gainesway has 180 to sell during the next five books of the sale.
