Gainesway Brings Strong Book 1 Offerings to Keeneland November

It’s a select group of nine for Gainesway during Book 1 of the Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale on November 4, starting with Hip 9.

Selling as part of the Bonne Chance Farm dispersal, Hip 9 is the stakes placed Distorted Humor mare Unbound, who has been an eye-catching producer after a career that saw her win three times with four other top three finishes in her career. The mare’s first three foals were all winners, including the 10-time winner Malibu Star, but her greatest achievement in the shed so far has been the Grade 1 winning Arabian Lion.

Foaling a Gun Runner filly this year, Unbound sells in foal to Arabian Lion’s sire Justify for a 2026 foal on a March 6 cover. She is following in the footsteps of her own dam, who is a half-sister to Grade 1 winners My Flag, Miner’s Mark, and Traditionally and produced two stakes performers of her own. Her stakes placed daughter Mary Rita is also the dam of multiple Grade 2 winner Major Dude, who has an update after winning the Artie Schiller S. this year.

Unbound’s Gun Runner filly also sells as Hip 10 right after her dam.

Friendship Road, a half-sister to OLYMPIAD bred to Vekoma sells as Hip 79.

Friendship Road was a multiple placed racehorse herself when racing from two to four. She is one of three winners from three to race out of the Grade 3-placed Tokyo Time. That mare is a half-sister to the Grade 2 winner and Grade 1-placed Hungry Island and Grade 3 winner and Grade 2-placed Soaring Empire. Tokyo Time isn’t the only prolific producer either with a half-sister producing Grade 1 winner Preservationist, another producing Grade 2 winner and Grade 1-placed Pleasant Passage and a third the dam of Grade 3 winner Azure Coast.

Friendship Road foaled a Practical Joke filly this year for her first foal and went back to Vekoma on a March 18 cover.

Three-time winner Goiaba sells as Hip 85 in foal to MCKINZIE.

Finishing in the top three in seven starts, Goiaba has two foals to race with her first by Into Mischief winning and her 3-year-old placing at both two and three. The mare’s 2-year-old by Curlin was a $725,000 Keeneland September yearling while her weanling filly from Uncle Mo’s final crop sells as Hip 86.

Goiaba is a Speightstown full sister to Japanese Grade 1 winner Mozu Superflare and half-sister to Grade 2 winner Sacristy. Sacristy has produced stakes winner and Grade 3-placed Catiche and stakes winner and Grade 1-placed Flor de La Mar. Two other half-siblings are the dams of Group 1 winner Qafila and stakes placed Hit the Woah.

This family also includes the Grade 1 winning Jersey Girl and Jersey Town as well.

A March-born TAPIT colt sells as Hip 155 out of Occasionally.

That full sister to the Grade 2 winning Tizahit is the dam of four winners from six to race with the group including Grade 1-placed Oviatt Class. Her winning 2-year-old is also placed this year at three and her daughter brought a stakes update to the family. That daughter is Back Roads, the dam of this year’s Sleepy Hollow S. second Max Money.

Occasionally is one of four stakes producers out of the Kris S mare Never a No Hitter. Tizahit produced Grade 1 winner Come Dancing and Grade 3-placed So Darm Hot while another daughter produced stakes winner and Grade 2-placed Skipalute, and a third produced the stakes placed Shake Some Action. Under the colt’s third dam is Japanese Triple Crown winner Contrail and champions Folklore, Forte, and Essential Quality.

Selling in foal to Flightline is Hip 160, the multiple stakes winning Opus Forty Two.

The earner of $232,050 won stakes at both three and four and was second in a Grade 3 in her career before retiring after two starts this year at five. She is one of three winners from three runners out of two-time winner Laquesta, who is a half-sister to the Grade 3-placed Glacial.

This family is well proven with Opus Forty Two’s third dam the prolific Grade 2-placed Pretty ‘n Smart. That mare produced Grade 1 winner Cupid and the Grade 3 winning duo of Heart Ashley and Ashley’s Kitty. Heart Ashley produced a Grade 3 winner in addition to the Grade 3-placed dam of Grade 2 winner Ain’t Easy. Another daughter is the granddam of both Grade 2 winner Kathleen O and Grade 3 winner and Grade 1-placed V V’s Dream.

Grade 1 winning Distorted Humor mare Restless Rider sells as Hip 184 carrying a foal by Nyquist.

The Darley Alcibiades S. (G1) winner who finished second in three other Grade 1s is the dam of two runners with her 3-year-old placed this year. Her Gun Runner 2-year-old filly was sold for $525,000 this year and her yearling was a $1.2 million Keeneland September purchase by Spendthrift from Gainesway.

Restless Rider is one of four winners from five to race out of Silky Serenade, whose half-brother is the dual Grade 2 winner Private Vow. They are two of the four winners out of a daughter of Grade 3 winner Sacque, who is also the dam of the stakes winning Heavenly Lass.

A weanling half-sister to Grade 1 winner Concrete Rose sells as Hip 200 on Tuesday.

The TAPIT filly’s dam is the three-time winning Powerscourt mare Solerina, whose dam is a half-sister to Group 2 winner Lovers Knot and the stakes placed Foodbroker Founder. This family also includes Horse of the Year Ferdinand among others with seven of her first eight dams producing at least one stakes performer.

The first book of the Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale takes place at 2pm ET on Tuesday, November 4. In all, Gainesway has 145 set to go through the ring during the four book sale.
