Making his second career start, MCKINZIE’s Ken Ramsey homebred Dr. Kapur impressed at Keeneland on Thursday to become his sire’s fourth Thoroughbred Daily News ‘Rising Star.’
The Saffie Joseph Jr. trainee shot right to the lead as the favorite in the seven-furlong dirt race with two horses shadowing his every move. The pair kept him honest for much of the run before Dr. Kapur pulled away in the stretch.
Kicking off his career finishing second to MCKINZIE’s Big Dom in a Saratoga Maiden Special Weight last out, Ramsey told TDN that Dr. Kapur will now be aimed at the Kentucky Jockey Club S. (G2) next month.

“I’m so excited,” Ramsey said. “Irad was really pleased with the horse. He was actually pulling away at the finish, they weren’t gaining on him. I’m keeping an open mind, but I’m high on this horse.”
Dr. Kapur is out of another Ken and Sarah Ramsey homebred in the stakes winner and graded stakes placed Ava’s Kitten, who is by his late Kitten’s Joy. Ava’s Kitten is a full sister to dual Grade 1 winner Real Solution and to the Grade 2-placed Costana. This family also includes Peruvian champion Tunelero.
MCKINZIE’s second crop of juveniles includes 13 winners with the group led by two stakes performers.
