A filly offered by Bedouin Bloodstock led the way for KARAKONTIE at the Keeneland September Yearling Sale this month when bringing $275,000.
Purchased by Case Clay Thoroughbreds, the filly bred by KMN Racing is a half-sister to a winner and a placed runners by TAPIT from two to race out of Grade 3 winner and Grade 2-placed Apache Princess. That mare’s placed runner Spicy Princess is a juvenile who finished third in her first two starts earlier this summer for her breeder.
Apache Princess was the strongest winner for her stakes placed dam Puskita, but far from her only successful one with her son Busk still active on the track. That 4-year-old Candy Ride gelding has proven to be a consistent performer for his connections with a seven race win streak this year that took his record from the seven career wins shown on the catalog to nine by the time this filly went through the ring for $224,350 in earnings.
Puskita is just one of multiple broodmares on the page to produce very useful racehorses with her dam also producing 11-time winner Indian Bucks and five-time winner Vision of Green and nine-time winner and stakes winner Dancin Rahy and six-time winner Alpha Darlin under this filly’s Grade 2 winning fourth dam.
Each of the four dams named on this filly’s page either produced a stakes performer or was a stakes performer with two doing both.
Bradley Thoroughbreds went to $185,000 on behalf of Rodeo Creek Racing for a KARAKONTIE colt offered by Gainesway during Book 5.
The colt bred by Emory Hamilton is the second foal out of the stakes placed Kitten’s Joy mare Hungry Kitten, who won three races. The mare is one of two stakes performers out of the multiple Grade 2 winner Hungry Island, who also placed in multiple Grade 1s as one of many top racehorses in this family. Hungry Island is a half-sister to Grade 3 winner Soaring Empire and Grade 3 placed Toyko Time out of Flying Passage.
This family has close ties to Gainesway with Tokyo Time producing Gainesway’s Grade 1 winning stallion OLYMPIAD. Other daughters of Flying Passage produced Grade 1 winner Preservationist, Grade 2 winner and Grade 1-placed Pleasant Passage, and Grade 3 winner Azure Coast.
The sire of multiple Grade 1 winner She Feels Pretty among his stakes performers in 2025, KARAKONTIE has had a successful yearling sales season with the group selling for up to $300,000 this summer.
