It was a huge coming out party for DRAIN THE CLOCK’s first yearlings at the Keeneland September Yearling Sale when the stallion saw 12 of his yearlings bring six figures.
His very first yearling through the ring ended up being his topper when Chad Summers went to $250,000 to buy a Paramount Sales-offered colt.
The colt’s dam is the Hard Spun mare Outkickthecoverage, whose own dam is three-time stakes winner Callmethesqueeze. That mare was a seven-time winner overall and has become a successful broodmare as well as the dam of four winners. Her best runner is Alabama S. (G1) winner Power Squeeze with daughter Call On Mischief also winning a stakes in her four visits to the winner’s circle. Callmethesqueeze’s 2-year-old Fulleffort is keeping the page active with a placing in two starts
This is only the second foal for Outkickthecoverage, whose first six dams all produced stakes horses.
Exclusive Bloodstock purchased a $200,000 filly from Straight Line Equine Sales as the second most expensive Drain The Clock offering of the sale.
The filly’s dam is the winning Grand Appointment mare Windsail. That mare has been a strong producer so far with four winners from four of racing age. Three of those four have earned blacktype in stakes winner Windy Lu Who and the stakes placed duo of Angel’s Sassy and Maleah. Windsail hasn’t earned her own blacktype, but she is a half-sister to stakes winner Stormy Amber. Stormy Amber produced a stakes producer of her own with her daughter the dam of the stakes placed Edge of Night.
There are stakes performers under all four dams on this yearling’s page with third dam Romanticat producing Grade 1 winner Things Change, stakes winner Dinner Break, and the dam of Grade 2 winner Hero of Order. Both her stakes winners produced stakes performers themselves.
Romanticat is also a half-sister to Grade 1 winner Harlan and the dam of the stakes winning Swearingen.
Arroyo Bloodstock purchased a pair of DRAIN THE CLOCK yearlings, led by a $195,000 colt from Denali Stud.
The fifth most expensive offering of Book 5A, the colt is the second foal out of Uncle Mo mare Mo Cheeks. That mare is a half-sister to eight winners from nine to race out of the stakes winning Nice Boots Baby, who has been a successful broodmare. Her runners include stakes winner and Grade 1-placd Orinoquia and the stakes placed Storm Shooter.
Orinoquia is the dam of stakes winner and multiple graded stakes placed Top Line Growth and the stakes placed duo of Kitch Fire and Hitch a Ride. Each of the dams with runners on this page have produced at least two stakes performers with at least one winning a stakes. There are nine stakes performers named on this page overall.
DRAIN THE CLOCK’s other offerings brought $170,000, $160,000, $150,000, etc. with his 36 yearlings sold averaging over 7.5 times his 2023 stud fee.
