$650,000 Colt Leads MCKINZIE’s Keeneland September Week 2 Offerings

The second week of the Keeneland September Yearling Sale went just as well as the first for MCKINZIE, offerings in the final four books were led by a $650,000 colt purchased by Belladonna Racing, West Point Thoroughbreds, and Woodford Racing.

Offered by Hill ‘n’ Dale at Xalapa in the final session of Book 3, the colt is the second foal out of the Tale of the Cat mare Shan’s Tiger. The colt’s dam is a placed full sister to champion She’s a Tiger. That mare is the dam of Group 2 placed Danon the Tiger from her three winners from four to race.

Shan’s Tiger is also a half-sister to dual Grade 1 winner Smiling Triger and multiple stakes winner and Grade 2-placed Smiling Causeway from the seven winners out of the stakes winning Shandra Smiles. Shandra Smiles is one of four stakes performers out of 10-time winner Beyond The Storm with the group including Grade 3-placed Traci Girl.

Tracy Farm bought a $525,000 filly as the highest priced MCKINZIE filly in Book 3 or later from Clearsky Farms.

This filly is a full sister to MCKINZIE’s two-time Grade 1-placed McKinzie Street from one to race out of Karpathos. That mare is a three-quarter sister to Grade 2 winner Kantharos and half-sister to Grade 3 winner Ikigai, stakes winner Bonifacio, and Grade 2-placed Halo Nation from those out of three-time winner Contessa Halo.

Contessa Halo is one of three stakes producers out of Queen of Savory alongside stakes placed Fortune in Gold and Seattle Savory. Their multiple stakes winning half-sister clever Idea is also the granddam of a Grade 2 winner.

MCKINZIE also saw his Keeneland September Book 3 and later yearlings sell for $375,000, $350,000, $300,000, $300,000, $300,000, etc for an average of $151,675 for 43 sold.
