It was a book topper for Gainesway during the third book of the Keeneland September Yearling Sale when they sold a $2 million colt to Justin Casse and M.V. Magnier.
The Into Mischief colt is the second foal out of Miss Jessica J and continued the success of the Lady Pewitt family at this sale.
Miss Jessica J received a big producing update before the sale when her first foal – a 2-year-old filly by TAPIT named Abdul – finished in the My Dear S. on debut. Miss Jessica J was unraced but is a half-sister to champion Jaywalk and stakes winner Danza Trice among the six winners out of Lady Pewitt. That mare also saw her KARAKONTIE daughter Magnanimous provide an update to the page when her juvenile son was second in the Victoria Stakes at Woodbine on the same day as Abdul’s placing.
Lady Pewitt saw her own OLYMPIAD colt sell for $250,000 earlier in the sale while Danzatrice’s TAPIT full brother to Gainesway’s Grade 1 winning stallion TAPIT TRICE sold for $1.25 million.
Gainesway was also the consignor of a $800,000 Good Magic colt sold to Jones and Everett as agent for Belmar and Legendary.
This is the first foal out of winning Empire Maker mare Easy to Love, who is a half-sister to Canadian champion Lukes Alley and stakes winner and Grade 3-placed Arrifana. Arrifana’s own runner finished third in the Texas Thoroughbred Association Futurity earlier this year at two. This colt’s granddam is the stakes winning Vaulcluse, who set a new track record at Tampa in her victory.
This colt’s family also includes Group 1 winner Elusive City and Grade 3 winner Millions among others.
Gainesway’s $346,112 was the highest of any consignor with 10 or more sold in Book 3 with their 36 sold averaging $12.46 million. Through three books Gainesway has sold 95 yearlings for an average of $555,527 and gross of $52,775,000 – the highest average for any consignor with 10 or more sold during the first three books and second highest gross with 14 seven-figure horses sold.
