After a successful first book, TAPIT saw his Book 2 yearlings carry the momentum into the next few sessions of the Keeneland September Yearling Sale, led by a $1.3 million half-brother to DRAIN THE CLOCK.
Sold by Gainesway on behalf of breeders Nick Cosato and the Tapit Syndicate, the colt purchased by Mayberry Farm is the eighth out of Arch mare Manki. That mare has found success in the breeding shed with four of her five to race winning at least once, led by Grade 1 winner Drain The Clock. The mare is also the dam of dual Grade 2 placed Corposo.
This page is strong in both the U.S. and abroad with her dam Private Ice’s half-sister Midnight Line not only winning a U.S. Grade 2 but also finishing third in the Epsom Oaks (G1) and Canada’s E.P. Taylor (G1). Her son went on to win multiple Group 2s and place in multiple Group 1s. Another half-sister is the granddam of Ignitethelight, who finished second in the Zimbabwe Oaks recently. One generation back on this page are also Group 1 winners Together, Jan Vermeer, and Imperial Beauty.
TAPIT’s most expensive filly of the book was also his second most expensive hip when Douglas Scharbauer bought a daughter of Take Charge Angel for $775,000.
Another offered by Gainesway, the filly is a half-sister to MCKINZIE’s two-time winner Furio as the first foal out of their dam. Take Charge Angel won three races herself and is a half-sister to dual Grade 1 winner Cave Rock among six winners out of Grade 3 winner Georgie’s Angel. That mare most recently saw her juvenile Angel Gift win.
Georgie’s Angel is one of two stakes winners for Lalka alongside Grade 3 winner Lawn Ranger with Lalka also the dam of two stakes winners.
TAPIT’s six yearlings sold in Book 2 averaged $615,834 with a gross of $3.695 million and his other yearlings selling for $600,000, $450,00, $335,000, etc. He had the third highest average of any stallion with more than one sold in Book 2.
There are limited opportunities for buyers to purchase a TAPIT left in this sale with the stallion just having four more on offer – all four coming in Book 3.
