Robin Smullen was the buyer of a $400,000 OLYMPIAD colt to kick off the second day of the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Sale, which saw the first-crop stallion’s three offered sold for an average of $193,333.
That $400,000 Mike Rutherford-bred colt out of the winning Hay Flo came into the ring with an impressive after half-brother Bobrovsky won by an impressive 10 ½ lengths at Saratoga on July 24.
Offered by Eaton Sales, the colt is a half-brother to one other winner from two others to race. It’s been a big summer at Saratoga for this family with Hay Flo’s Grade 2 winning full sister Significant Form the dam of Belmont Oaks Invitational (G1) third Opulent Restraint. Opulent Restrain also has a stakes win to her name as well. Among Hay Flo’s other siblings are also Grade 3 winner Hay Dakota.
This colt’s second dam Church By the Sea sees her own siblings continuing the stakes success through the generations. She is a half-sister to Grade 2 winner Hello Liberty and stakes winner Pious Ashley with Hello Liberty also producing stakes winners. Among those five stakes performers out of Hello Liberty are the stakes winning duo of Hello Beautiful and Hello Hot Rod.
Another one of Church By the Sea’s sisters is the dam of Grade 3 winner Cairo Memories and stakes winner Cariba in addition to being the granddam of Grade 1 winner Zandon and champion Sol Principe Gris.
An exciting week of sales isn’t over yet for OLYMPIAD, who has two on offer at the Saratoga Fasig-Tipton New York-Bred Sale on August 10 and 11.
