MCKINZIE’s Quickick Determined In Iowa Oaks

MCKINZIE’s multiple Grade 1 placed Quickick earned a well-deserved stakes success on Saturday with a win in the Listed Iowa Oaks and MCKINZIE’s Paradise City finishing third.

Shipping to Prairie Meadows for the 1 1/16-mile dirt race, Quickick was content to drop back and race in last as she relaxed under Brian Hernandez Jr. Staying in touch with the field down the backstretch, her jockey moved her off the rail to have clear running room for her run.

The longtime leading Sayucan had opened up many lengths on the field and the rest of the horses didn’t look to be making up much ground, but that didn’t stop Quickick. Barreling down the stretch, Quickick gained ground with every stride to time it perfectly for a nose victory with the rest of the field 13 lengths behind the top two.

Trained by Tom Amoss for Greenwell Thoroughbreds, the filly bred by Gainesway and Whisper Hill Farm has now finished in the top three in five of nine starts for $560,400 in earnings. Among her top three finishes are a second in the Alcibiades S. (G1) and third in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1).

A $275,000 weanling and $550,000 yearling – both when sold by Gainesway, Quickick is the fourth stakes winner for Graeme Six. That mare also produced the Grade 3 winning duo of Cali Star and Delightful Joy and the stakes winner Seymourdini. TAPIT’s Delightful Joy also produced Grade 2 winner Window Shopping.

A Grade 3 winner and Grade 1-placed mare, Graeme Six produced 10 winners from 11 foals as one of six winners out of her own dam.

Leading the way among second crop sires by number of Grade 1 performers in 2025, MCKINZIE is also second by number of stakes performers with 11 and third by number of stakes winners with four.
