Hymn Impressive on Debut for MCKINZIE

It was a 26th winner for MCKINZIE on Saturday at Oaklawn Park when Hymn won a six furlong Maiden Special Weight.

The Ron Moquett-trained colt was making his debut in the race after putting in an impressive set of works in recent weeks including two bullets. That speed showed immediately out of the gate when he was among the leaders before racing just behind the leaders four paths off the rail.

Leaving his early partner behind around the far turn, Hymn focused on the leaders and impressively came running. The colt showed some greenness down the stretch, but was still talented enough to win by four lengths.

Hymn races for breeder Fleur de Lis Stables, who bred him out of their Paynter mare Salt Bae.

This is the first runner for that stakes placed mare, who was also fourth in a Grade 2. She is out of a half-sister to Group 1 winner Agnes World, Japanese champion Hishi Akebono and the dam of Group 1 winners Librettist and Dubai Destination among others.

MCKINZIE leads all second crop sires by number of cumulative Grade 1 winners, Grade 1 performers, graded stakes winners, and graded stakes performers in addition to being the sire of eight stakes performers overall.
