Chambeau’s love affair with Colonial Downs continued Saturday when the KARAKONTIE daughter won at the 2023 meet for the third time in the Camptown Stakes.
Chambeau wasn’t going to let the field have it easy in the 5 ½ furlong turf race as she pressured the early leader before taking over command in the turn. She dealt with her own pressure around the turn but as they straightened in the stretch, Chambeau made it clear the race was over as she started to pull away.
A few horses tried to chase her down but there was never a serious threat with Chambeau winning by two lengths.

The victory came exactly one week after the Sam English homebred won an Allowance Optional Claiming race here by two lengths. She also won the Tyson Gilpin Stakes in July before finishing second in another Allowance Optional Claimer 12 days later.
Trained by Anthony Aguirre, Chambeau has made all but two of her nine career starts at Colonial and has four wins at the track and a win at Pimlico as well.
The mare is one of three stakes performers for the multiple stakes placed If Not For Lust, who also produced the stakes placed duo of Awake the Day and English Heiress.
Chambeau’s win comes less than 24 hours after KARAKONTIE’s daughter Princess Grace earned a fifth Grade 1 placing when second in the Group 1 Memsie Stakes in Australia.
