KARAKONTIE’s Chambeau won the Tyson Gilpin Stakes on debut in 2022 and repeated that victory again on Saturday with a 3 ¾ length victory in the Colonial Downs stakes.
It wasn’t the same gate-to-wire victory as her 2022 win in the 5 ½ furlong turf race but it was close with Chambeau just behind the leader. Chambeau was keen but listened to her rider and stayed a length behind until she was released.
Once Chambeau was let out a notch, she easily confronted the front runner and soon was past the once in midstetch. No one had a chance to catch her with Chambeau bolting away to win by 3 ¾ lengths with a blanket finish behind her.

The Sam English-bred mare is now the winner of half of her six starts with a second at Colonial Downs as well on her resume. Trained by Anthony Aguirre, she was making her 2023 debut here and took her earnings to $200,300 with the victory.
Out of the multiple stakes placed If Not For Lust, Chambeau is a half-sister to Awake the Day and English Heiress. In all, the mare has produced three winners from four to race with English Heiress not a winner but placing in the 2019 edition of the Typson Gilpin.
