KARAKONTIE and Spanish Bunny have combined for another exciting runner after Gainesway homebred Spendarella raced out an easy winner on debut at Gulfstream Park on Wednesday.
The full sister to KARAKONTIE’s stakes winner and multiple graded stakes placed Spanish Loveaffair, Spendarella raced like a professional throughout the run for Jose Ortiz. As the field entered the turn of the 1 1/16 mile turf race, Spendarella engaged in a duel with the leader that she was determined not to lose.
It was only a matter of time before Spendarella took command and from there, her only focus was extending her lead. In the end, the Graham Motion trainee won by 2 ¾ lengths with the third placed runner 5 ½ lengths back from the winner.
Spendarella’s victory comes just a few months after her full sister sold for $775,000 at the Keeneland November Sale. The pair are also half-sisters to the Grade 1 winning Spanish Queen, who is the dam of three winners herself.
KARAKONTE proves year in and year out that he is a top class sire with 12.3% stakes performers and 6.67% stakes winners – putting him among the top of the fourth crop sire class in both categories.
