TAPIT’s regally-bred Courvoisier jumped on the Road to the Kentucky Derby (G1) on Saturday with a victory in the Listed Jerome Stakes at Aqueduct to become his sire’s 150th stakes winner. The son of champion Take Charge Brandi earned 10 points toward the Kentucky Derby in his stakes debut after breaking his maiden last out. In Saturday’s race Courvoisier went up to pressure the pacesetter early in the one-mile event before taking over in the final eighth. From there, Courvoisier wasn’t asked for his all and put in just enough effort to win by 1 ¼ lengths in the end.
“He does everything right,” said trainer Kelly Breen. “He just needed to put it all together. He was being very juvenile in his first couple of races and I think this is the beginning of him moving forward.”
Next up for the Courvoisier is the Withers Stakes (G3) on February 5.
