TAPIT on Top at Saratoga, Led by $990,000 Filly

TAPIT lead all sires by average in the historic 100th Saratoga Sale.

Only days after a weekend that saw TAPIT register two new stakes winners and overtake Giant’s Causeway as the all-time leading N. American sire by progeny earnings, his yearling season got off to a big start as the leading sire by average at Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Sale.

To start things off, his daughter out of Checkupfromzneckup brought $990,000 in the first session. Purchased by West Point Thoroughbreds, Scarlet Oak Racing, and NBS Stable from the Denali Stud consignment, the filly was the second most expensive of the first session overall and most expensive filly.

Her dam is a stakes-placed winner of four races, who already has a three-time winner from one to race. Checkupfromzneckup is a half-sister to the dam of Grade 1-placed Magna Light and herself is out of Grade 1-placed Unbridled Lassie.

Unbridled Lassieis out of top broodmare Lassie Connection, whose dam is the great Lassie Dear. Lassie Connection is a three-quarter sister in blood to Horse of the Year and champion sire A.P. Indy with the pair both by Seattle Slew and Lassie Connection a half-sister to A.P. Indy’s dam Weekend Surprise.

On the second day of selling, TAPIT again saw a bidding war for one of his fillies when Mayberry Farm went to $800,000 to secure a gray daughter of Madame Stripes as the second most expensive filly of the session.

Consigned by Gainesway, the filly’s dam was a graded stakes and Grade 1-placed racemare in the U.S. and was Group 1-placed in her native Argentina as well. Madame Stripes is a full sister to stakes winner Equal Court and Grade 1-placed Equal Councellor.

Madame Stripes’s four-time winning dam is also a sibling to multiple stakes performers in Group 1 winner Cagnotte and stakes winner Calvados in addition to the dam of Grade 3 winner Grade 1-placed Chemin du Ciel.

White Birch Farm was the winning bidder on a $600,000 colt out of Sweet Talkin offered by Four Star Sales.

Both the colt’s siblings gave him updates before he went through the ring with his half-brother winning after the catalog was released and his half-sister increasing her earnings. The colt is out of a half-sister to Frizette Stakes (G1) winner Adieu, and Grade 3 winner Direct Line among the four stakes winners his granddam Irene’s Talkin’ produced.

Another one of Sweet Talkin’s siblings is the dam of stakes winners Laurie’s Rocket and Greeley’s Rocket and is also the granddam of the Grade 3-placed, Kentucky Derby runner Necker Island.

Gainesway also sold the $450,000 TAPIT colt out of stakes-placed Fleet of Gold to Solis/Litt late in Monday’s session. In all, TAPIT’s four to sell from five through the ring averaged an outstanding $710,000 with a $700,000 median.
