It was another successful yearling sale to top off the season for Gainesway at the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky October Yearlings Sale when the consignor had the third session topper.
Coming in as the second most expensive offering overall at the conclusion of the sale, the Louisiana-bred filly sold to Ben Gowans for $725,000 with Gowans signing the ticket for Andrew Beck’s Young Squirrel Stable.
“The moment we saw her, we were really blown away by her,” said Beck. “My dad [Antony] was thrilled by her. He pulled me to the side and said, ‘Look at this.’ He was teaching me things using the filly as the example. She is the epitome of what we are looking for. She was classy and an absolutely lovely filly that we can’t wait to have in the stable. It took the whole team, and everyone loved her.”
Bred by Coteau Grove Farms and offered on their behalf, this page got a big update just a few weeks before the sale when the filly’s full brother Gaudreau finished second in the Champagne S. (G1). He is the second Nyquist winner out of the stakes placed Free Cover, who has three foals to race overall.
“That’s our highest price ever for Coteau Grove,” said Coteau Grove’s Andrew Cary. “We were hoping she would sell really well, but I didn’t have a number in mind where she could end up. We are thrilled and she went to a great home.”
Free Cover is one of two stakes performers out of stakes winning dam Candybedandy alongside her full sister Victory is Sweet. Candy Be Dandy is one of two stakes performers for her own dam with one of her winning siblings also producing stakes performers.
Gainesway also sold yearlings for $300,000, $285,000, $260,000, etc. to register a gross of $1,408,500 for the second highest gross of any consignor at the sale
