KARAKONTIE’s 3-year-old daughter Spendarella made a winning return in the Del Mar Oaks (G1) on Saturday with an easy 4 1/2 length romp in California to become KARAKONTIE’s first Grade 1 winner. Her first Grade 1 win came two months after her gutsy second in the Coronation Stakes (G1) at Royal Ascot. Spendarella has quickly proven to be the best turf 3-year-old filly in the nation with two other graded stakes wins in five starts this year for Gainesway Stable as a homebred. In all, she has won four of her five starts – including victories in the Appalachian Stakes (G2) and Herecomesthebride Stakes (G3).
The sire of 13% stakes performers, KARAKONTIE’s nine stakes winners also include Spendarella’s full sister Spanish Loveaffair. That filly sold to Lael Stable for $775,000 at last year’s Fasig-Tipton November Sale.
