Leading all second crop sires by number of Grade 1 winners in 2025, it was no surprise when a MCKINZIE yearling was in high demand at the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky October Yearlings Sale.
Selling during the final of four sessions, the filly brought $325,000 from Mayberry Farm when offered by C&S Thoroughbreds. She is a full sister to MCKINZIE’s Miskellieanne, who won on debut after the catalog was finalized. That filly became the third winner from as many to race out of Cool and Stormy.
Cool and Stormy is a half-sister to eight winners out of the winning Seattle Slew mare Cool Slew, who was a successful broodmare. The mare produced Grade 3 winner and Grade 1-placed Globetrotter and stakes winner Slew’s Exchange. Her daughters are also the dams of multiple stakes winner A Bit of Both and stakes winner Ledecka.
There are 16 more stakes performers under the yearling’s third dam with that group led by the Forego S. (G1) winner Win Win Win. That third dam is also a stakes winner and is a full sister to Grade 1 winner Ops Smile.
MCKINZIE ends the yearling sale season with 79 sold for an average of $164,943 with the group selling for up to $650,000.
