Freshman sire Karakontie notched his first winner as a stallion when his juvenile daughter Karak prevailed in her career debut at Belmont Park May 25, becoming a TDN Rising Star in the process.

Sent off as the 8-5 favorite in the five-furlong turf contest, Karak jumped to an early lead and never looked back. She won by three lengths in impressive front-running fashion over males, completing the distance in :57.38.

Karak is trained by Wesley Ward for Breeze Easy, who purchased her for $365,000 after she worked a furlong in :9 4/5 at the OBS March sale. She is now pointed toward the Norfolk Stakes (G2) at Royal Ascot.

Karakontie, a G1 winner at 2, also captured the G1 French Two Thousand Guineas and the Breeders’ Cup Mile at 3. An earner of nearly $2 million, his first-crop 2-year-olds have sold up to $460,000. Karakontie stands for $10,000 at Gainesway.
