Tapizar’s American Pastime cruises to third win

‘TDN Rising Star’ defeats older horses at Del Mar

Tapizar colt American Pastime cruised to his third career victory Aug. 19 at Del Mar. The 3-year-old Bob Hess Jr. trainee defeated older horses in a six-furlong allowance by 2½ lengths.

After tracking the leaders down the backstretch under jockey Kent Desormeaux, American Pastime was given his head around the turn and opened a comfortable lead in the stretch before stopping the timer in 1:09.23.

American Pastime was bred in Kentucky by Glendalough from the Valid Expectations mare Ryan’s Inheritance. His trainer signed the ticket for $135,000 at the 2015 Keeneland September yearling sale for owners Judith Huarte, Bert Lane, Mike Mowrey, Jan Steeper, and Gary Woods.

Joining 11 ½-length Saratoga maiden winner Mr. Crow, American Pastime is one of two colts from Tapizar’s first crop to be named ‘TDN Rising Stars.’
