Tapizar colt Mr. Crow broke on top and increased his margin at every call to win the July 22 Saratoga opener, a six-furlong maiden special weight, by 11½ lengths in a sharp 1:09.44 (VIDEO).

The performance translated into a remarkable 109 Beyer Speed Figure, the year’s highest figure by a 3-year-old.

Mr. Crow was immediately tabbed a “TDN Rising Star” to join fellow first-crop Tapizar colt American Pastime, who earned the distinction for his March 11 debut victory at Santa Anita.

Trained by Todd Pletcher for KRA Stud Farm and ridden to victory by Luis Saez, Mr. Crow was acquired by his owners for $150,000 at the 2016 OBS March sale after breezing a quarter-mile in :20 3/5.

Mr. Crow was bred in Kentucky by Avalon Farms and Scott Swaim from the Harlan’s Holiday mare Black Chocolate.
