Tapit tour de force at Keeneland as trio of yearlings top Book 1

Tapit yearlings bring $2.7M, $2.6M, $2.5M

Yearlings by Tapit brought $2.7 million, $2.6 million, and $2.5 million—the three highest prices of Keeneland September’s elite Book 1 session Sept. 11—to vault the champion sire atop the standings by both average and gross.

The Tapits attracted an international cast of buyers, headed by Coolmore’s M.V. Magnier, who signed for a $2.7 million full-sister to Coolmore-owned Cupid, one of three Grade 1 winners for Tapit in 2017 and a candidate for the Breeders’ Cup Classic. Consigned as Hip 69 by VanMeter-Gentry Sales, agent, the filly is out of the Beau Genius mare Pretty ’n Smart.

Mandy Pope’s Whisper Hill Farm went to $2.6 million for Hip 49, a Tapit colt out of the Grade 1-placed Medaglia d’Oro mare Miss Besilu. The colt was consigned by Taylor Made Sales, agent.

Shadwell also landed a top-priced Tapit, paying $2.5 million for a colt out of Ogden Phipps (G1) winner Tiz Miz Sue (by Tiznow). Paramount Sales, agent, consigned the bay colt as Hip 105.

In total, 11 Tapit yearlings sold during Book 1 for an average of $1,165,909 and gross of $12,825,000.
